Lunar New Year
Year of the Snake Illustration
The Brief
Create an illustration for the Year of the Snake as part of the Memphis Grizzlies' annual Lunar New Year celebrations. The goal was to develop a high-impact asset that could translate across player and fan apparel, social media, and in-arena motion graphics.
The Concept
The design revolves around a snake holding a basketball, striking a balance between a sporty and a celebratory tone.
To honor the team’s Classic jersey night, I integrated the Grizzlies’ iconic Vancouver and “MEM" patterns directly into the snake’s design.
I also collaborated closely with the franchise’s Digital Media Producer for the China market to ensure the illustration was culturally authentic and respectful.
The Result
The final illustration served as the anchor for the event’s visual identity and received positive fan engagement both in person and on social media.
